I. Getting Started
1. Search
Use the search bar to find research articles. You can type a query, add keywords, apply filters, or switch to AI mode.
Query
The main text input. It can be a simple term, a complex sentence, or even a question. No special syntax required. For example, "cancer immunotherapy" or "How does stress affect the immune system?"
Keywords
Click the keywords toggle to specify search terms for more precision. Terms can be separated with ';'. Prefix a term with NOT to down-rank articles matching it. This can be used with or without the query.
Filters
Click the filter icon to narrow your results. There are operation filters to handle categorical article attributes like Fields and publication type. The possible operations are:
- Include: Only show articles matching at least one included value.
- Exclude: Hide any article matching an excluded value.
Note: If an article matches both an include and an exclude, it is hidden.
You can also filter by:
- Date Range: Limit results to a specific year range.
- Open Access: Show only freely available papers.
- Publication Type: e.g. Clinical Trial, Review, Journal Article.
- Min. Citations: Only show papers with at least N citations.
AI Search
Toggling the AI switch in the search bar will execute the search then trigger an Autopilot action where AI automatically selects the most relevant articles and generates a summary, providing a first overview of the search results.
INTERACTIVE PREVIEW
Click the buttons on the left to see the search bar update.
2. Articles list
Both in the search results page and project page, articles appear as a list of cards. Each card shows the data we have about the article.
What's on a Card
- Metadata: Authors, DOI, date, citations, publication status, and more.
- Keyword Groups: Biomedical keywords mentioned in the article. These keywords are grouped using UMLS Metathesaurus data and ML based semantic representation.
- AI summary: A short summary from Semantic Scholar's database, shown when available.
- Abstract: Article's abstract, shown when the article's license allows us to use it.
- Links: Direct links to the article in the publisher's website, PubMed, PMC ...
- Open access and license: Shows the open access status and license as identified in our data
Interactions
- Select: Check the box to select an article. Selected articles can be used to filter the Knowledge Graph, apply AI Actions, or be saved to a project.
- Expand: Abstracts, TL;DR and keyword groups list can be truncated to save space. You can expand each section when needed to see the full data for a given article.
Header Controls
- Sort: Build a multi-level sort chain. Drag metrics to set priority, toggle ascending/descending per level, and add or remove criteria. Available: Selected first, Keyword groups, Relevance, Date, Citations, Title.
- Save to Project: Save selected articles to a project.
- Download: Export selected articles and their metadata as a CSV.
- Settings: Adjust what is shown in the articles list.

II. Exploration Workspace
4. Keyword groups
The Keyword groups panel lists keywords found in the shown articles (e.g. chemicals, diseases, genes). Each item represents a set of related terms grouped together using semantic embeddings and data from UMLS Metathesaurus. Use them to refine which articles appear at the top. These keywords are further grouped into categories like 'chemical', 'biological process'...
Header Controls
Search for a keyword at the top to find its group or use the settings icon to filter or reorder keywords.
Keyword Group Actions
Each Keyword group has the following actions:
Add to Search: Use it as a keyword in your next search.
Include: Move articles containing this keyword from this group to the top.
Exclude: Move articles containing this keyword group to the bottom.
Unpin: Remove the include or exclude for this keyword group.
Reorder: Drag pinned keywords to change their priority. The order of pinned keyword impacts the order of articles.
Group: Drag a selected keyword group² onto another to merge them into one group.
5. Knowledge Graph
The graph shows how keywords from your results are connected: Each node is a keyword group, edges are direct relationship extracted using our algorithms from least one article (e.g. an article states that one keyword influences or correlates with another).
Note: The graph is currently extracted from abstract of search results or project articles. It is limited to articles with permissive licenses only
Header Controls
Toggle between viewing knowledge graph extracted from all results or only selected articles. Use the settings icon to filter the graph.

Interactions
Pan & Zoom: Drag the background to pan. Scroll to zoom.
Hover Node: Highlights the node's neighbours and edges.
Click Node: Highlights and select the keyword group.
Click Edge: Selecting an edge by clicking it will prioritize its articles in the articles list.
6. AI Actions
Each AI action represents a different method to use AI to help the user with their search. Currently, it can generate summaries (Generate Summaries) based on selected articles and query, propose a selection of articles from the results (Suggest Articles) or both (Select and generate).
As of today, every AI action is independant. To make the AI generate something new you can update your articles order. For example, after a first AI action, you can select new keywords or reorder the articles to obtain new results.
How It Works
- Open the AI Actions panel via the icon in the sidebar.
- Pick an action type, this will show a description explaining what it does and what it needs.
- Click Generate to obtain a response, each claim is cited with a reference number.
- When the AI actions text cites an article it will show in a list under it. This list will help you quickly select or unselect the cited articles in your search results
III. Data & Organization
7. Search History
Every search is saved automatically. Your query, keywords, filters, and selected articles are all preserved. Give your searches names to retrieve them easily later.
Auto-Save
You don't need to manually save. Each search is recorded with its full state as you work.
Managing Past Searches
Clicking a search will open a modal, you can use this to perform different actions:
- Load: Load a saved search results page.
- Rename: Name your search to find it quickly later.
- Link to Project: Add a search to one or more projects.
- Delete: Remove searches you no longer need.
8. Projects
Projects let you collect articles and searches into groups. This allows you to explore articles from multiple searches
Managing Projects
The projects panel allows you to perform different actions:
- Create: Open the Projects panel and create a new project.
- Explore existing projects: Clicking a project opens a modal with its metadata.
- Open: Inside the modal, you can click the open button to access your project.
- Delete a project: You can delete any project at any time through the projects panel header or the modal.
9. Project Pages
When you open a project you are taken to its dedicated page. This page combines project metadata with the same exploration workspace as search results, scoped to the project's articles.
Details
A collapsible panel at the top shows:
- Metadata: Project name, description, creation / update dates.
- Linked Searches: Searches added to this project. Click one to open its details, or use the play button to load it.
- Selected Keyword Groups: Positive (included) and negative (excluded) keyword groups currently applied to the project.
Exploration Workspace
Below the details panel you get the articles, along with the Keyword Groups, Knowledge Graph, and AI Actions panels. This allows you to explore and manipulate your project's articles in the same way as search results.
Actions
- Add Article: Manually add an article using its title.
- Edit: Update the project name and description via the metadata panel.
Typical Workflow
- Create a project from the Projects sidebar panel.
- Run searches and save relevant articles to the project.
- Open the project page to explore all collected articles together.
- Use Keywords and Knowledge Graph to discover patterns across articles.
- Run AI Actions scoped to the project's collection.
